TSES Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Spotlight
Watch this space for updates and ways you can support your child’s learning at home!
During the first three weeks of school, our teachers introduced a new social-emotional learning tool called the Zones of Regulation. Throughout the school year, students will participate in lessons during their SEL time. The goal of Zones of Regulation is to help students recognize their emotions, build strategies to manage them, and strengthen their ability to stay focused and ready to learn.
The program uses four color-coded “zones” to help students identify how they are feeling:
- Blue Zone: Low states of alertness, such as feeling tired, sad, bored, or sick.
- Green Zone: A calm, focused state where we are ready to learn, play, and interact positively with others.
- Yellow Zone: Heightened emotions like frustration, excitement, anxiety, or silliness. In this zone, students may need to use strategies to get back to the green zone.
- Red Zone: Intense feelings such as anger, rage, panic, or being out of control.
There are posters hung in classrooms that you can view in English and Spanish . By teaching students to recognize and manage their emotions, we are giving them lifelong skills that support both their academic success and their social well-being. We look forward to partnering with you as we begin this important work.
Here are the topics your child(ren) has or will learn about each week this month.
