Newsletter
Greetings TSES Families,
We want to be sure that our families are aware of the adjustments to the 25-26 school calendar that were announced during last week’s Board of Education meeting. Although this affects several dates, please note that the soonest change occurs this Tuesday, 03/03/26, as it will now become a FULL DAY of school for students. (Originally scheduled as a 3-hour early dismissal day.)
The following message from HCPSS outlines all the adjusted days/hours for the 25-26 school year.
The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) 2025-2026 school year calendar originally included three inclement weather makeup days, 06/16/26 through 06/18/26. As of 02/26/26, HCPSS has used five inclement weather days, as well as four late openings. As a result, high schools are now two hours short of what is required in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).
At last week's meeting, the Howard County Board of Education approved calendar adjustments to ensure the school system meets the State’s required days and hours, including:
- Tuesday, 03/03/26: Originally scheduled as an early dismissal - now becomes a FULL DAY for students.
- Monday, 04/06/26 (Easter Monday): Originally scheduled as schools/offices closed - now becomes a FULL DAY for students. The State Board of Education granted HCPSS a waiver to open school on 04/06/26. Spring break will now be held from Monday, 03/30/26, through Friday, 04/03/26. Students will now return from spring break on Monday, 04/06/26.
- Wednesday, 04/15/26: Originally scheduled to be closed for students and designated as a staff Professional Learning and Work Day - now becomes a HALF DAY for students with the standard 3-hour early dismissal. TSES will now dismiss at 12:15PM on 04/15/26.
- Thursday,05/14/26: Originally scheduled as an early dismissal - now becomes a FULL DAY for students.
- Tuesday, 06/16/26-Thursday, 06/18/26: Originally scheduled as inclement weather makeup days included in the 2025-2026 school year calendar. Now slated as HALF DAYS for students. The last day of the 25-26 school year will now be Thursday, 06/18/26. TSES will now dismiss at 12:15PM from 06/16/26-06/18/26.

TSES Attendance Olympics
TSES students have been participating in their own Olympics at school, the Attendance Olympics, that is. Our year to date attendance rate is 94.2%. We are working hard to reach 95%!
Classes can earn "gold medals" for having 100% attendance, 95% or better attendance, or improved attendance from week to week.
We are currently at the midpoint of the TSES Attendance Olympics, and we have three classes tied for the highest medal count with 7 gold medals each.
Shout out to Ms. West's 5th Grade Class, Ms. Shultz's PM Preschool Class and Ms. Kaler's Preschool Class. 5 more weeks to go until the end of the Olympics. Stay tuned for which classes earn the most medals!
