Maryland Accreditation for Pre-K Program

Dear Families,

Our Pre-K program has recently completed their self-appraisal using the Maryland Accreditation Standards.  Participating in Maryland Accreditation is a way for our Pre-K program to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality learning environments and continually making improvements to benefit children, families, and staff. Our self-appraisal team comprised teachers, administrators, family, and community members.  As a result of our initial self-appraisal, we have developed a Program Improvement Plan that will address the following goals:

  • Increase the presence of authentic child-generated art and language through displays and written dictation.

  • Provide opportunities to write at each learning center with various materials and tools.

  • Increase materials that are authentic in reflecting the diversity of the students in the classroom, school, and community.

  • Create an outdoor learning center with various materials; including books, manipulatives, and writing materials.

Over the next few months, we will collect documentation and artifacts to verify the quality of our program.  We’re eager to make program improvements and achieve Maryland Accreditation!  Please contact your child's teacher with any questions about Accreditation or our Accreditation Program Improvement Plan.

Recess Information

Using Title I funds, TSES will partner with Howard County Recreation and Parks to create a structured recess program for grades K-5. Starting on April 2, two coaches will work with students during each recess block to develop skills for a variety of sports and games. In addition to skill attainment, coaches will focus on sportsmanship and social emotional learning, specifically self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Be sure to ask your student(s) how recess has changed and any new activities they are engaging in with their peers. We are very excited about the new recess program!

Message from the Health Room

Hello TSES Parents!

Spring into healthy habits! It is that time of year when the weather is becoming nicer, and we are spending more time outside.

What do Seasonal Allergies look like?

·       Stuffy/runny nose

·       Watery/itchy/red/puffy eyes

·       Scratchy throat

·       Dry cough

·       Itchy, bumpy skin, hives, redness

What can parents do to help their child with seasonal allergies?

·      When returning in from playing outside, have your child wash their hands and face

·       Have your child splash/rinse eyes and apply a cool, wet cloth

·       Talk to your child’s pediatrician about oral allergy medications, as well as eye drops or topical allergy medications for symptoms

If your child has Asthma, it is important to contact the pediatrician and have a treatment plan in place during this time of year.  Please don't hesitate to reach out to the health room with any questions.

MSDE Parent Survey

Parents of students with IEP's,
Please take time to complete the MSDE Parent Survey that was recently mailed to you. This survey provides HCPSS the information about how well we are partnering with you and promoting parent involvement. Your feedback will help guide efforts to improve special education and related services in HCPSS. Please access the survey using this link: https://www.mdparentsurvey.com/.
