albott Springs Elementary School Friday Newsletter~September 20, 2019

Talbott Springs Families,
What an amazing week at Talbott Springs Elementary School! We are so grateful for your children as they share in the learning and offer support to one another. Thank you to the many families who were able to attend our Back to School Event on Thursday September 19, 2019. We appreciate your presence and your thoughtful exchanges with our staff. If you are seeking a more personal conversation with your child’s teacher(s), please contact those teachers for a conference. If you missed the Back to School Night because of your attendance at the HCPSS Board of Education Meeting or for any other reason, we are offering to meet with you to share general school and grade level information in early October. Please see below for specific information. Your support and care for our school is appreciated! Looking ahead, please set aside Saturday September 28 from 9:00-11:00 for our Green Apple Day of Service! This is a great way for our students to participate in a school based service learning project! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!

HCPSS participates in the Free and Reduced-price Meals (FARMs) program. Qualification is based on family size and income, and enrollment is confidential. Families must submit a new application every school year. We have a number of families whose Free and Reduced Meals benefits will expire at the end of September or in mid-October. Any student whose family has not filled out an application by the 30th school day will have their status changed to full pay until a new application is received. Parents/guardians are highly encouraged to fill out the applications as soon as possible. It is very important that applications are filled out accurately and completely. Apply online or Apply by mail: Paper applications are sent home with students on the first day of school. Paper applications can also be picked up in the Food and Nutrition Service Office (5451 Beaverkill Rd, Columbia, MD 21044). Applications can be returned to your child’s school or mailed to: HCPSS Food & Nutrition Service Office, 10910 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042. From the TSES Physical Education Staff! We are excited to start a new year in Physical Education class, and we have so many exciting activities planned.  In order for your child to participate in these awesome activities they must be prepared with the proper footwear. Appropriate athletic and supportive footwear is needed. Students must wear an athletic shoe with a molded rubber sole. Sneakers must be tied with laces or secured by Velcro. Cross trainers, tennis, or court shoes are recommended for physical education activities. Sandals, cleats, Crocs, boots, flip flops, and shoes with no backing are not acceptable for physical education activities. Any student who does not have the appropriate footwear will not be allowed to participate in PE movement activities. We thank you for your continued support, and please let us know if you have any questions.  Ms. Parker and Mr. Watts

TSES Flu Vaccine Opportunity! Influenza, also known as the flu, is a serious illness that affects people of all ages. Last year was a bad flu season across our nation with many people becoming ill. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is through vaccinations. Once again, we will work with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention (MPP), the state’s immunization coalition, to offer flu vaccinations at TSES to students and teachers on October 21st of this year. Flu consents were sent home this week with your students and are due no later than September 21st.  You can also complete the consent online at www.vaccineconsent.com.
