Summer Hello from TSES!

Thu, 08/03/2017 - 4:16pm

Talbott Springs Elementary School Families, I hope that you are all enjoying a summer filled withactivities! Between family events, the HC Library Summer Reading Program, summer swimming and other sports, summer school, camps and just being with friends-this precious time moves so quickly!

At Talbott Springs Elementary, Mr. Linkins and I are in the midst of preparing for the 2017-2018 school year. We are attending conferences to learn important information about teaching and learning, meeting to develop schedules, writing the School Improvement Plan, setting up plans with our PTA, scheduling extended day learning and sports opportunities and registering students! Each day seems to be busy filled with hope for the upcoming school year.

The following are informational items:

  • The new TSES Playground is in the bid phase. It is my hope that construction will begin soon with a finish date no later than late September.
  • Plans for the new TSES replacement school will begin during the 2017-2018 school year.
  • HCPSS is in the midst of on-going discussions regarding the proposed redistricting to take place during the 2018-2019 school year. The plans have a large impact on TSES families-moving families in both Hopewell and Sewell's Orchard. Please read the plans at CCC and express your thoughts to the Howard County Board of Education. The feasibility study with the attendance area changes is at the following link: http://www.hcpss.org/school-planning/. Meetings to discuss the proposed will be held on July 25, August 1; August 8 and August 15. Information about location and time for these meetings is on the HCPSS School Planning Webiste. You can also submit your thoughts through the same website via a link to a feedback form. Please consider lending your voice to this process. Talbott Springs can be represented!
  • Family File is not yet ready for updates. Families will be informed once that is open for your information. Families with updated information will be able to access student teacher assignments in late August.
  • A new Food Bank is open at the Other Barn in Oakland Mills! Please visit from 5:30-6:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Howard County Recreation and Parks will be offering after school opportunities for TSES students for soccer and tennis between September through December. A schedule will be sent out as soon as it is available.
  • If your child needs a book, please visit the TSES Little Free Library located outside the front doors of the school.

I look forward to September 5, 2017-the first day of school!

Sincerely,

Nancy Thompson
Principal
